Our Vision: Doing things differently
The South East London VCSE Charter sets out our shared commitments to partnership and innovation between the VCSE sector and the Integrated Care System (ICS) in south east London.
Our Strategic Priorites
We have recently agreed our shared strategic priorities as a VCSE Alliance, aligned with the direction of the Integrated Care System (ICS) and ICB. These set out the key areas where we will focus our collective influence and activity to support stronger, more community-led approaches to health and care. We will be developing detailed workplans over the coming months - please check back here for updates on our progress and priorities in action.
Strengthening neighbourhood ecosystems and Integrator models
Strong neighbourhood health depends on more than services alone. We will continue our work to ensure VCSE organisations, community assets and local networks are at the heart of Neighbourhood Health and Integrator models, helping shape decisions and support that reflects the needs of local communities.
Shaping prevention and health creation
Prevention is key to creating healthier communities and reducing future demand on services. We will continue our work to systematically embed community-led approaches, which tackle the wider social, economic, and environmental factors that shape people's health and wellbeing across the health and care system.
Unlocking VCSE insight and data sharing
VCSE organisations have unique knowledge of their communities, particularly those historically underserved by health and care services, but do not have access to statutory services-held data on the people they serve. We are working to strengthen how VCSE insight is gathered, shared and used to inform planning, commissioning and population health approaches, as well as improving VCSE access to health-held data.
Developing shared outcomes and evidencing impact
Demonstrating impact is key to unlocking future sustainable fuding for the VCSE sector. We will continue to work with partners to co-develop outcomes that capture the value and impact of VCSE-led prevention and health creation, and how these will meaningfully shape shared decision-making and future investment.
Transforming commissioning and funding approaches
In order to ensure a thriving VCSE sector, we need to create new and sustainable funding approaches. We will be working to co-create commissioning and funding approaches that support collaboration, enable long-term planning, and recognise the full value and cost of delivering community-based support.
Strengthening workforce and volunteering pathways
We are working to ensure the 'one workforce vision for south east London' incorporates VCSE workforce and volunteers. This includes influencing workforce planning, widening participation in health and care career pathways, strengthening the role of volunteering, and better sharing of workforce infrastructure, including training tools and skills-sharing.

Opening doors for VCSE organisations
We have been working in partnership with SEL ICB to make better use of NHS buildings as spaces that benefit local people. Our aim is to help micro, grassroots and by-and-for VCSE organisations access these spaces for free to deliver activities and support in the heart of their communities. By making better use of NHS estates, we can ensure local organisations have the room they need to provide vital, culturally responsive services and help tackle health inequalities across south east London.

Unlocking neighbourhood data for VCSE organisations
Access to meaningful data is essential if VCSE organisations are to shape services, influence decisions and address health inequalities. Developed by PPL in partnership with all London ICBs and VCSE Alliances, the London Neighbourhood Explorer provides free access to neighbourhood-level data for the first time.
